What year is this post war DX?

Looks like mine that was determined to be around 1947. Serial number records older than 1948 were lost weren't they?

**NOS** Schwinn S-7 enameled rim 26" ***NOS***

Feel free to make an offer if you can use this. Rather sell it here than eBay.

**NOS** Schwinn S-7 enameled rim 26" ***NOS***

Really nice NOS enameled S-7 rim that I bought many years ago for a Typhoon but sold the bike. This has never been used or laced. $100 shipped.

    What's this bicycle worth?

Good thinking. Then I'll go buy it. ;)
  5. twomorestrokes

    What's this bicycle worth?

Yes! It's a good deal. If it were any cheaper it would be free.

    JC HIGGINS Bro-Sis combo

Nice. Now the're popping up all over now that I've got one!

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

Modified rack I found the correct rack on eBay but wasn't ready to spend another $110 plus shipping so I went after mine with a cut off wheel and grinder. Better.

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

That's what I figured. This is my first non-Schwinn build so I'm new at the "off brands" LOL. Wish I woulda known about the difference because this rack was NOT cheap. Live and learn. To me the fun is in the search for parts and the build. However, this is usually more costly than buying...

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

The seat post has not been altered, as the end of the tubing still wears the original green paint. However, I think you're onto something Jon. Prior to '53 the seat post clamp was part of the bike frame, whereas the '53 models were changed where the top of the frame tube was slotted and used a...

Rear rack fit So I got the rear rack bolted on and it still doesn't fit quite horizontal. Did the brackets change at all from '50 to '53? Or is there a difference between girls and boys racks as far as fit? I can always slot out the mounting holes a little but am I missing something?

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

Interesting that you showed yeshoneys CF with the green wheels. There is another bike just like it on eBay this morning. Almost thought it was the same bike but it is not. Were green rims available on these bikes? That's a lot of green for me...
  12. twomorestrokes

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

Agreed. The lines need to be straight. The rear rack is just sitting on the bike so angles Ares correct at this point. I've also seen a lot of these where the front brace angle is not level. I'll have to work on that as it will bother me. Personally I don't care for the colored rims unless they...

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

Thanks guys. Now I've reached a personal dilemma. I sure wish the bike had the original fenders and rack because finding pieces in the same colors is turning out to be nearly impossible. I was preferring an original bike showing the signs of 60 years of use bit ended up with a green bike with...

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

Picked up a pair of pretty straight fenders at Ann Arbor yesterday. The rear one was bright blue so I covered it with a quick green cover. They're just sitting on there so I can get a preview...

Looks great! I have to stick with OA though for the price difference.

I wouldn't ever break a bike down till payment was received, just for that very reason.

Help with paint color I'd like to paint the rack in the correct colors but don't really want to refinish the tank. Anyone have any suggestions on matching the gold? It's really more of a tan. I haven't found anything that comes close. Or should I just paint the tank and all of the other gold...

How does one age a new part? How did you do it?

Yeah I'd like to know also. I'm getting a restored fender to go on my patina bike and it's gonna stick out like a sore thumb. Great job BTW!

    Talewinds Memory Lane/Ann Arbor -Presale-

Nice Jag! Middleweight Mark II's were '57 and '58 though.

What does your current project look like now?

Looks good so far 2jakes. Hard scrounging up parts for these bikes. I started right out looking for the tank first, and got lucky that the one I found had most of the other parts attached to it. :-)
  23. twomorestrokes

What does your current project look like now?

Here's my '53 Color Flow, bought incomplete. Want to get it complete before deciding on how far to go with it. Counting on you folks to help me find some fenders. Please. :-)

Thank you. Need fenders for a boys version, no skirt holes.

This is Super Important! Everyone Read!

You should NOT panic. This has existed for 2 years, apparently. If you're private personal or financial information is going to be exposed by this, it very likely could have already happened. Here's what I would recommend. The proper course of action would be to (1) confirm the system has been...

Color Flow fenders and rack needed

Okay, this is getting frustrating. I've now had two sellers on another forum back out of the sales of their CF fenders. One set was green like I needed, the other set was green with a coat of red paint over them. Need to get this bike rolling so I can enjoy! Looking for the rounded...

My garden up north displays a mid 30s Elgin.

    huh? girls bike?

Modern ladies bikes are no longer step through. Been a long time! They are just tweaked a little to fit a female, like shorter bars with slightly different angles, etc. I love riding my wife's Specialized Dolce Sport tall frame. Looks like a man's bike, tons of gears, high quality shifting and...

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

My fender option fell through. I'm sure many of you were aware of the Color Flow fender auction from lowluxbikes. They were overpriced at 300. After I started a conversation with him expressing interest, he lowered the price to 255. I stayed in contact with him and offered him 200 (against my...

I'd like opinions please... ...on these wheels. Robbed them off a cheap Murray Westport I have hanging around. Chrome drop centers in nice condition. With all of the patina that this bike shows, would I be better off using the original rusty wheels as they are, using these, or lacing these rims...

To polish or not to polish b6

Nice B6! Seeing as the frame paint has already been polished I'd do the rest of the name to match.

Oxalic acid bath on rubber pedals

I buy it at my local TruValue hardware store.
  34. twomorestrokes

Oxalic acid bath on rubber pedals

Good one Jon! ;) I think I'm on a different page than some of you here. OA is not for cleaning the rubber, but for cleaning the rusty metal parts of the pedal. Scrub the rubber first, drop in in the bath to remove rust from the metal, then finish up. On some pedals I mask off the rubber...
  35. twomorestrokes

Oxalic acid bath on rubber pedals

I've done it plenty of times. OA has no effect on the rubber. Good soak in water afterward and lube.
  36. twomorestrokes

    Colorflow question

Who knows? They could be original. Been some discussion about these '49 ladies bikes labeled as Color Flows. I'm not surprised that the pedals may not be the typical Color Flow style, as neither are the tank, rack, seat, etc. Without the chain guard decal, these early bikes could pass for the...

My ongoing Higgins Color Flow clean up.

Very slow progress, but I DID find a rack for the bike. Assembling pieces as I get them, then I'll decide what to do with it appearance wise. The rack is in the wrong colors and if the fenders I find aren't green then at least some partial repaint is in order. Escuse the messy shop... been a...

    Colorflow question

Not sure about pre 1950 bikes but these are the style I'm used to seeing. My 53 has them also.

    $176.38????? What..

Apparently someone recognized it for what it was, realized they'd probably never find another and had to have it. It happens.

INCOMING! Early '50s Green Schwinn Panther!

That it is Jon! Gotta love the Color Flow but I've always been partial to the Schwinns. Lot higher quality. Really cool Panther score.

    Schwinn Greens

Those photos of 2jakes show the difference clearly. Radiant green is much more green than opalescent. Opalescent appears more green in bright light and takes on a more bluish green in muted light. When I repainted the tank on my Mark II it was far too bright green. I stripped it and fogged a...

*bump* Found a rack but still looking for fenders. Thanks!

    Schwinn Greens

there has been discussion and debate over at the schwinnbikeforum concerning opalescent green and radiant green. Personally I do not think they are the same color. I own a 1957 Jaguar mark II in opalescent green and it appears more blue to me then radiant green
