Had some fun in March putting this gem back together. A client had all the parts in the basement and brought them in for us to put into riding condition. It appears to be very original, including the light lenses, saddle and grips. Really beautiful bike - styling and color combo. Enjoy!
Good morning Cabers! Had a client bring all the parts in for this 1960’s JC Higgins Freightliner for a preservation and rebuild. Can anyone give me the year of manufacture based on the numbers from underneath the bottom bracket. Very cool bike with all the original parts down to the tires...
Good afternoon everyone. I received a wood wheeled Chicago built AJAX men’s bike in an I completed state of restoration today at the shop. It appears to be complete with the exception of the saddle. There is a wood wheel needing repaired and both wheels need to be re-laced. Tires are Gillette...
Good Friday afternoon everyone. This fun Hawthorne showed up in the shop a week or so ago. I tidied it up a bit, pumped up the tires, grabbed a seat post and a basic saddle off the vintage/antique rack and took it for a ride. The springer on the front is cool - main reason I bought it from...
Good morning everyone - looking for some wisdom on rebuilding an old Morrow Coaster brake. Before tearing into it, it would not brake, but rather when applying the brake it would push through the brake resistance. After the first cleaning and rebuild, it now brakes intermittently and has a...
Looking to get some idea on what bicycles these pedals would have adorned. Wald. Need cleaned up. Reflectors on ends and sides are intact. Help please.
Pulled this little gem out of the boneyard today and cleaned it up, serviced it and put on new tubes and tires. It appears to be complete, including saddle and grips. Seems to be missing some decals on the top tube. Anyone out there know much about these folders from the 60’s?
Just finished the frame up rehab/preservation of this gorgeous Schwinn. We are deep into that season of the year when we do these labors of love. The owner comes to pick it up tomorrow.
Enjoy!
Anyone out there with advice, warnings and/or insights about taking apart a locked up Bendix 2 speed hub (red rings) and putting it back together. I do have the 1969 Schwinn Shop Manual on p. 237 and following.
I have in my possession what appear to be two late 1800 or early 1900 rear steer tandem frames. They came with a bunch of bikes I bought from the estate of a deceased collector. I believe the frameset of the one without the crankset is a GJ based on comparing it with another GJ I have here in...
Needing help with tricks of the trade to disassemble and reassemble a vintage S Schwinn saddle (Mesinger). I am rehabbing a 1963 Schwinn Typhoon for a client and the lock washer and nut had come off the bolt at the nose of the saddle. There has got to be a way to out one back on, but I don’t...
Having a lot of fun rehabbing/preserving this 1961 Schwinn American in flamboyant red. Has the two speed Bendix rear hub (3 red bands). Paint is pretty good as are the decals - with the exception of the patterned decal on the seat tube. I have swapped out the stem, handlebars and grips that...
Needing some help identifying this gem. Happy to add additional photos as requested. I’m out of my league on this one. I acquired it with a collection of bicycles and parts from an estate knowing it was an antique and not wanting to see it be scrapped. However, I am not the guy to have it...
I was called this week to help a family liquidate an estate and these bicycles are part of the decedent’s collection. Here are some photos. I would appreciate any additional information about places to find info on these bikes as to their history and value. Thanks in advance.
The first three...
Had this blue beauty land in the shop a month or so ago and decided it looked like a fun rehab. Can’t find much on it other than Norta’s we’re (perhaps are) made in Belgium. Single speed with a rear freewheel and front and rear Weinmann rim brakes. 650c MANAL wheels with WECO (Germany) hubs...
Good evening everyone. Have a bike shop client who wants to sell me his 1966 Columbia Playbike 88 single speed in Coppertone. What is a fair price for these. I looked at a CABE thread from 2011 and a three speed was going for $350.
Anyone out there recognize this brand bike that can point me to more information? This one came into the shop recently all dirty, but cleaned up well and is going to look nice when done.
Looking for information about these bicycles that have been presented to me for restoration. I cannot find anything on them. They appear to be from the 1930’s with a Princeton headbadge on them. Help please.
