I do have this very cool old crusty embossed Whizzer tank tho..... I'll bring it when I take the bike frame and forks to the sandblaster for clean up. I also have a Whizzer H motor. Not running. Maybe I just clean them all up and stick them together? I dunno.

Upon taking it apart today, I found bent handlebars AND no Schwinn markings. Should there be?? Also the crank is marked WALD...bummer. The stem bolt was stripped and rusted/welded in place. So the cutoff wheel came out today.
Guess I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a set of 26" Schwinn...

Yep Gary I'm pretty sure too it's been repainted. Decent job by somebody. Ok so it's a B6 model. That's good to know. Did they all have tanks? Were there models that had no tank and white enameled rims?? Wheels are both white. New Departure rear hub. But both rims don't have any Schwinn...
Would love some help figuring out what Schwinn model this might be. Serial #H130574. 1951? Can't find a catalog online to compare photos. Seat can't be correct. Rear rack? Could it have had a tank? Picked it up months ago, and just now getting to it.

Got it all back together. It's not a completely original bike. Persons seat. And not sure it would have come from the factory with chrome fenders and white enameled rims. Also not exactly sure what the correct decals would be for this year and model. But it was really fun putting it back...

I've located a kickstand. THANKS for everyone's help and input! I'm not a kickstand expert and I don't know what an original '61 Schwinn kickstand markings would be. This one says "atwood" on it. But it works, which is all it needs to do.

I think you're right, I've never seen a glamour shot of a kickstand:) I'm guessing most Schwinn middleweights came with built in kickstands. Other manufacturors used detachables too. Interesting part to locate...Last thing I want is to find the wrong one. And like I've seen before, end up...

CBJ, here's my first experiment with OA bath. My 1960 red Corvette. Before and after. Soaked it for like 36 hours. Most importantly it got ALL the rust off the frame. And saved what was left of the paint. My guess, most of the red paint is the red primer. Hope this info/photos helps.

Ebay stem showed up today. Ebayer says '59 Jaguar...I dunno. But it's Schwinn, and it works. Handlebars were too far gone. They went off to the chrome shop today.
Labor of love! Good job saving the bike. I say save ALL Corvette 5 speeds, they're too rare not to. Is the bike all put back together?

I gave the frame an oxalic acid bath overnight. To my surprise it totally derusted it. AND didn't harm the paint OR the decals! Then I rattle can clear coated the frame and it helped bring...
For info, I found a stem on ebay. "Supposedly" out of a '59 Jaguar for $25. Should be fine. Proof is in the pudding:) A local Norcal Caber was nice enough to part with this bike recently. Photo as started, and now it's starting to go back together.

I agree with the earlier post by Thee, smaller diameter stem doesn't look right. I happen to have a 1967 stem off a womans Schwinn Breeze. Stuck it in the corvette, and too small diameter. Just ran out to the garage and measured the Breeze vs the Wald that came out of Corvette.

I soaked it while the forks were still on the bike for a week with all the standard over the counter lubricants/penetrants. Wouldn't budge. Tried everything, even a sledge hammer. Nothing. Forks needed to be pulled off the bike so we could put them in a vice. Hence cutting the stem in half...
Ahhh so that's what the "W" on the stem must mean... was wondering, and thought it may not have been an original. It also looks different from my 59 corvette stem. Although I'm not sure that its' original equipment... But I guess that's good news with this stem, since now I don't feel so bad...
