Leave it as Found. And I don’t know what you mean by “restore” but that is an excellent survivor. Anything you do that damages that Original paint would ruin the value. As it sets it is probably $1200-$1500. Of that were a five speed, you’d be looking at $3000+.
As odd as it sounds, the term comes from the flat solo polo seat, and yes it was invented for bicycle polo. In the early 1960s kids found these seats and began using them to customize their bicycles. That was not what these kids bikes were designed for but the name from the seats stuck.
I spent the last couple of days moving all of the bikes to one space. They were in the basement, the house, and the garage. I had never scene them all together.
I have this red accessory solo polo seat. It’s all original. It still retains its original seat pan sticker. There are a couple of splits that are shown. Still, it’s a pretty nice old seat and hard to find these days.
All of those Schwinn bicycles in my collection are going to have to make a little room for today’s find. I’ve always wanted one of these. This one is original paint, but the guard has been redone and it will need a period set of tires. I’m pretty happy with this one! 😁
Here is an almost finished project. This original paint fair lady still needs a proper solo polo seat, and a better set of grips but she’s starting to look pretty good.
