Chain arrived yesterday and I’m like the looks of the new rims and the never used vintage Tioga tires I picked up. Unfortunately I still don’t have the 3-speed right.
I’ve built up a few city bikes. I’d do it in phases. Phase 1: simply slap on some upright bars, along with the cable, brakes and grips.
Ride that for a bit. then decide:
do you need to swap the seat?
how’s the braking and tires? A 700c conversion might be smart. Pay attention to axle lengths...
Next question: As I look about, it appears I can get a cro-moly unicrown fork (like you'd see on a non-suspension MTB) for the same money as the hi-ten BMX-style forks -- about 50 bucks or so either way.
Acknowledging that the BMX-style has the right look, which would you pick?
Thanks. Other than some minor restomod cred and maybe marginally lighter weight, I’m not seeing advantage of thread less. Glad to have that confirmed.
The Amazon fork is just representative of what I’m after. Ideally I’d find a decently priced cromo version somewhere.
I’m not too concerned about...
I'm planning to pick up a tubular fork for my speedster project, similar to this one. My questions are
1. does anyone know a good source to pick up that style fork in chrome-moly for reasonable money?
2. is there any significant advantage to going treadless? As near as I can tell, I'd end up...
Freqman, they're all decent to me. I'm just trying to figure out which one I want to take on.
Archie I don't have more pics. That's what I've got. I think its a Huffman based on the brazed frame that doesn't look like a Schwinn to my eyes, but I could be wrong.
General thoughts:
The Schwinn is the easy button, but where's the fun in that? I do like a Speedster frame though.
That chrome cruiser is way cool, but I don't have a lot of faith it was built worth a damn. Those stamped, pressed-in dropouts scream "junk" to me.
The Huffman looks like a ton...
Not sure if this is the best place to post this but I’m looking for opinions. Would you choose:
1. Huffman frame and fork. Rough condition. Good for a klunker build only. Cheap.
2. American Flyer cruiser. Probably the worst made of the 3, but the frame and fork are chrome and should clean up...
