Still a work in progress needing a couple of finishing touches. In the process of removing rusted bolts I stripped the fender mounting hole in the forks... left the fenders off for now (or for good). Not sure how just a rear fender would look. I kept the rack to add color.
Back in May I posted a find that was rusting away in front of a local bicycle shop. Thanks to some feedback I received in here, it is believed to be a 1949 Glider/Monarch. I thought is had a spooky Victorian look so I gave it a witchy theme. I wasn't anticipating it being completed this far...
Seeking info on this bike. Head badge says "Glider" (not sure if it's an Eaton). Plate on the bottom bracket appears to have a model#5019 and serial#A0680036. Just trying to find a year and any info that might be available. I do not find a lot of info on Google.
HAPPY 419 EVERYBODY!!! HAPPY BICYCLE DAY!!! Today I fittingly unveil “The Cycledelics”!!! Wait… what? 419? Bicycle Day? Psychedelics? Gee Sam… what’s this all about?!?
I thought you’d never ask….
On April 19, 1943 Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman took a colorful six mile bike ride home from his lab...
Brought this Huffy home the other day and began the transformation. I know absolutely nothing about it. The serial appears to say 2H29I095 if anybody who’s reading this deciphers serial numbers!!! 1952??? I read somewhere thet after 1954 the serial was relocated to the dropout???
Found these a few weeks ago strung up on a chain link fence outside of a bike shop in Columbia, SC exposed to the elements. They each had similar accessories and baskets lined with burlap carrying potting soil suggesting to me the once belonged to the same owner and used as lawn decor. My sister...
I don’t know if this is the appropriate section for this topic but I’m in the process of painting and wish to apply decals. Searching Google I find a variety of conflicting information so I thought I’d seek somebody here with first hand experience. I’m using rattle cans of Rust Oleum oil base...
I know nothing about this one. Glider? I don’t know if it’s an Eaton Glider??? It will be a project and a half, if salvageable at all. Every moving part is frozen with rust!!! He also had this 29” Huffy. Nothing vintage but pretty cool so I took it too!!!
I know I’ve been posting a lot of questions about this bike since bringing it home the other day, but…. It is now disassembled so these are the best pictures I have. But the fork assembly has what appears to be a suspension (the chrome rods extending from the head tube zig zagging to the axil)...
This questions has probably been asked a million times.... I recently bought a rusty old Murray Meteor Flite and have it now all disassembled except the crank. I cannot break free the the pedal. I am turning clockwise for the reverse thread. I've taken a wire brush to remove whatever rust I...
I picked up this Viscount the other day and trying to figure out how to adjust the seat post. It has a bolt at the top resembling a wedge in a headset. I was able to loosen but afraid to play around and drop something to the bottom of the seat tube that I won’t be able to retrieve!!! I loosened...
The red one is a Viscount (Bang Flyer I believe it says). The other is a Murray Meteor Flite. Know absolutely nothing about either one and these picture were taken literally off my truck!!!! I am googling something about Viscount and aerospace…..
It’s hidden by the basket but the Murray has a...
The Trek 850 is my first bike purchased new in 1989. Virtually unridden the past 15 years and written off as DNR in my crawl space. In April 2022 I re-entered cycling with that 2022 Univega 29” Hardtail. A couple of months later I upgraded to the Giant Stance 29” Full Suspension. Meanwhile, with...
I recently saw a 1932 that the owner simply clear coated to preserve the rusted “patina”. I liked the effect and didn’t realize that was a thing until now. Any opinions? What preparation is necessary (if any)? What results will different finish produce (I.e. matte vs. satin vs. gloss)?
This was strung up on a chain link fence outside of a bike shop I just left with for $10. At first glance I thought the badge said Raleigh but it's a Rollfast. Just seeking some info as I never heard of Rollfast. The shop owner thinks it's an early 1960's but not certain. I haven't even taken it...
A couple of weeks ago I posted pictures of a Roadmaster I picked up and want to share the progress so far. General consensus seems to agree that it is a late '47/early '48. Mine was missing a rear wheel when I bought it among other misc parts so I purchased a cheapo Huffy for "temporary" parts...
Since joining the group I've made sporadic posts here and there without a formal introduction. I just drank a pot of coffee and thought would be a good time to bore you all with a brief bio..... I'm Sam from NY currently residing in SC since '02. Until April of this year the only bike I owned...
The other day I posted pictures of a $30 find with what turns out to be a '47/'48 Roadmaster designed such to accept a Whizzer motor. Unaware of methods and products available to restore the original paint, I prematurely stripped and repainted the frame a different color (I know I know). I...
Since joining this site I have done a couple of projects that I just realized haven't shared yet with the group. I purchased these within the last several weeks. The red one is a 199X? Schwinn Riverside 7sp which from what I understand is a retro reproduction of a 1950's model. It was pretty...
Just came home with this 194X(?) Roadmaster. The seller seemed to think it was a 1941 but as I research I am finding shared characteristics in both the pre and post war models. There seems to be some ambiguity with serial numbers and features with exceptions to every rule. This has pre-war...
This Schwinn is being listed as “vintage” in the classifieds. I know little about it and trying to get info from the seller. What makes me suspicious about its vintage status is the straight downtube to the crank with what appears to be bosses for a bottle cage. The only pictures I can find with...
Me again… I’ve been scanning thru classifieds wanting a restoration project. Never done this before, so just seeking info/advice. What is known about Roadmaster bicycles? This one is $125 which I have no idea if it’s a decent price. I’m not much of a shrewd haggler. Year unknown
Hey all…. New to the site and trying to navigate around. Not sure if there’s a general introduction thread, but….
In April of this year I began cycling again after over 20 years. Pulled this old Trek 850 out from the crawl space thinking it was DNR, so I purchased new. Meanwhile a little elbow...
I'm new to the site and recently re-entered mountain biking purchasing new. Meanwhile I restored my old 1989 Trek 850 Antelope thinking it was DNR and converted it to a hybrid/cruiser. I've developed an interest in restorations and came across an Elgin but somebody beat me to it. While looking...
