Gone but not forgotten. My first bicycle, a Schwinn Corvette, came from Memphis Motorcycle. My Dad bought his Simplex Servicycle, 1937 Indian Chief and his 1941 Indian Chief from Guerrino “Gino” Amagliani in the picture. I am using a frame that came from the shop to build a bike now.
I do not know. I am going to gather the parts I have and post a picture and try to mock it up. It would be a good idea since a lot of the parts are Schwinn repro prior to paint.
That is a good idea. I am just starting this project and have gathered parts for it for quite awhile. I have not mocked it up and it would be a good idea to post what I have to see if there are any obvious problems prior to paint.
It appears I have a balloon tire frame so I should be good. I had acquired the Schwinn badge and tank years ago. In just a couple of hours I have learned how to read a serial number, that I was mistaken all these years on how old the frame was and how to verify if it is a balloon tire frame...
I believe the dealer sold it as a used bike because the dealer decal is on the fork where the Schwinn badge is. You can still see the holes for the badge. I am building it as a custom bike with spring fork, tank and custom paint with Autocycle decals. I was just curious what year the frame...
Thanks for the info. I am building it to suit myself but wanted to know what it started out as. I knew I could find out quickly here. Appreciate your help.
I am starting on a Schwinn Autocycle build. I acquired this bike 30 years ago and believe it is a Schwinn Autocycle. It still had the remains of the decal used in the late 30’s and early 40’s on the frame that documented it was sold by our local dealer. If I understand correctly, due to a fire...
Great information! Thank you Adrian for taking the time. The headbadge does say Sports Traveller. I had a blue, original paint, balloon tire, Compax F-92H that had Paratrooper on the frame tube that I sold years ago. I like the F-92L. That is what they would have used if they had ever got the...
Hi Adrian, I have attempted to contact the person who listed the Compax with no luck. I am wondering if it is a legit ad as I have seen it posted on different sites with different prices and locations. I originally bought a pair of Compax’s in good condition 20 years ago in Massachusetts when...
Pictures of bikes like yours is the reason I wanted to join the Cycle-Truck Gang. I was able to find a 1940 Memphis phone book which helped me have the correct address and phone number. I used to see many small groceries with Cycle-Trucks sitting in front of them when I was growing up that were...
You have the real deal. I was originally looking for a 42-45 with the frame supports but had no luck. I decided I would go with what I have. Although I don’t think a single Columbia Paratrooper ever jumped out of a plane, I plan to do mine as 101st Airborne to carry in my military jeep. Good...
I have a 1946 Columbia Compax that I disassembled many years ago to restore. Now that I am going to finish it, I hope I can remember how, it went together and I haven’t lost any parts. Thanks to the manual I have and Kenneth Kowal’s great article on Compax Paratroopers I should be able to figure...
Memphis Motorcycle Company was an Indian Motorcycle and Schwinn dealer from the 20’s until they went out of business years ago. My dad bought his first motorcycle from them which was a Simplex Servicycle and later bought his 1937 and 1941 Indian motorcycles from them. He bought my first bicycle...
I am having my local shop lace the wheels to my paratrooper now. I will definitely check with him. I try to support local business. Thanks for the reminder.
You guys are so cool. Awesome to meet good people taking the time to give good advice. The Wald basket is going to suit me fine. I plan to use it at the antique meets. Love the truck. Reminds me of my 46 Chevy truck only it w as red with black fenders. I knew the issue with the large basket will...
Thanks. Will reach out to him. The Wald basket sounds good. It should work. I should post pictures of my large basket in case someone is willing to trade a small basket.
Question: Does anyone make a reproduction cycletruck small basket with the lid. Going to restore my cycle truck that came with a large basket. Going to use a small basket for space considerations in my trailer when I travel. Thanks for any information.
1967 Schwinn Cycletruck, BC39405. I believe this was the last year it was made. Acquired it last September and received a lot of good information from the cabe then. Recently sold home and having to downsize. Did not get a chainguard with it. Tires hold air and it is operational. Don't know any...
