So I’m new to Schwinn bikes. I have a CB 66 Fastback. I’m trying to find a Chainguard in Coppertone and I’ve been looking for a chrome one that is painted where the letters go but now I’m confused about what I need to be looking for after reading this thread!!! What goes on this bike?
Ohhhh ok, so that’s what a drop center rim is. Kinda has the raised area where the spokes go. Got it. To the best of my limited knowledge I believe the wheels I have are correct for the model. Thanks for the education, appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me and not acting like I’m an...
Now that it’s out there and I look at it you may be correct. It’s worth looking into and getting a set of tires and trying. Not like if I don’t like it I can’t use the tires. I have another set of s7 rims that I’m going to be overhauling sooo……
Would be nice to meet some people who just want to have some fun with these bikes. I started this hobby about 4-5 months ago as a way to occupy my time and stay sober. I really enjoy it although some folks on other forums or groups take it way to seriously and it’s an irritant. I will keep my...
Campus green 5 speed chainguard. Unsure of the year. Good condition, paint has some scratches and chrome has some peppering but is in pretty good condition. Brackets are good and strong.
Thanks for the info. As far as paint goes I was going for the cream cycle look/feeling. There’s also orange Pearl on top of everything but doesn’t show up in the pictures. I was doing an adaptation of original paint, kinda. First time trying anything like it and possibly the last as it was a...
It’s pretty freaking orange!! Got the tank and fenders installed yesterday and installed a white glitter seat. Still not in love with the seat. Definitely could use some chrome. Lots of orange. Hahaha. Still unsure if it’s an Autocycle or not though. Need to do some better research.
Thank you. It was a pain doing the scallops and stuff but on try 3 I feel pretty good about it. First time trying to do something like that. I’m not a painter by any means.
Not really sure to be honest with you. I was just going off the 1948 catalog honestly. That’s why I put the question mark at the end. Haha, I figured someone would call me out and set me straight if I was wrong. And yes it was bare metal when I got it and the rims were all messed up so I rebuilt...
That’s true. I did clean up things as best as I could but aside from getting things rechromed that’s about as far as I got with it. Pretty much the only reason for the repaint was it was bare metal when I got it.
Thanks!!! I did the scallops 3 times before I finally got it to where I was mostly happy. What you can’t see is I went over everything with orange pearl and then cleared it. Never really tried this before and am definitely a novice. Lots of trial and error and extra expense. Lol.
And then my wife and I took out our “matching “ bikes for a cruise around the canal. Hers is a 62 skipper and mine is a 66 typhoon. Hers is way cleaner than mine, both are mostly original although I did put chrome wheels on hers, I still have her original painted ones in my stash. Second time...
Rode this last night for the first time, got it a couple of months ago as a very small pile of parts. Rebuilt and repainted mostly everything and got whatever period correct parts I could find on eBay. Not completely done with it yet.
Currently painting this, kind of a resto mod if you will. Was bare metal when I got it. Somewhat stock and somewhat custom. Not a purist, just was thinking it would look good on a hot day. Like a cream cycle.
