Thank you! I used two layers, one over just the seat area, and another going to the edges of the pan. I made fabric washers to level first, although I found that leather, skived to shape, worked better. Fabric tacky glue holds it in place. I used barge cement on the edge of the leather to secure...
My first attempt at saddle covering. I have done leather work for many years, but not bicycle seats. I had some 5-6 ounce veg tanned cowhide, a new unwanted blanket, and a couple ugly saddles.
The recent rain has made the desert a very enjoyable ride. Today was through the desert, across Old Highway 58, and down the flood control levee to the Mojave River. My'49 DX is getting a lot of use!
May I suggest Peccards antique leather conditioner. They make a regular, and one for antique leathers. I believe it's available on amazon.
Clean with liquid glycerin saddle soap first. Don't use water! It will make things worse. I have brought back McClellan Cavalry saddles with it.
Spent most of the day cleaning this Schwinn Project KOM. I pulled it out of a shed yesterday. Made at Greenville Mississippi plant in April of 1988, using Japanese Tange tubing. This was Schwinns top of the line mountain bike, in team issue colors. The rear gearing was changed to 7 speed with...
Beautiful scenery and beautiful green bike to match! Green Panther is one of my favorites, I have yet to obtain. I enjoy the bikes and scenery that you post!
I had a great time! So many cool bikes and cabers! Scored a few items, including a tank for my Shelby. Thanks to all that worked so hard to make this a great event!
I got hooked on leather work from an 8th grade substitute art teacher. Been doing it ever since. My most recent work has been for Gunfight reenactors and quick draw competition. Too much Roy Roger's as a kid I guess. Been thinking about some bike related projects.
1950 Huffman Firestone Pilot. My wife's bike that she thought too ugly to ride. I found the original Dayton fenders, identical to the fenders that were on it, but better condition. Did my best to match the rest of the bike to the fenders.
The beginning of a project. I just picked this up. The first photo is from the offer up ad. Pirate badged Shelby. I guess it's a 1940, maybe Shelby aficionados will know better.
