View attachment 478067 I discovered that the source of the mechanical slop on my bike was due to improper gear backlash setting and also a loose retaining nut at the forward pinion gear.

So I started my rebuild by tightening this square retaining nut pictured at the front end of drive shaft.

Man, that's a museum piece. I never thought that pinion gear adjustment could be so complicated. Good work.

Have you or anyone found a good tool for adjusting the head set lock nuts on these bikes that just have a single pin hole?

Havent found a good tool.. I've used a tiny drift and small taps in the past. Again, there were special tools included with these bikes when new. I'd love to find a set.

I've been looking for a new tool that works. I ordered one, but it does not fit. Still looking, might make one. Thanks.
