good info Mike, thanks for sharing
I had always wondered what those grips were made out of
i had always assumed (probably incorrectly) that it was made of some type of very dense hard exotic wood, even if it didn't have any wood grains
but the material that you talk about makes a lot more sense
this is why your expertise is much valued

Did some more work the project this week.

Did not want to do it, but I melted the original tied solder features to remove and preserve the ball end spokes for someone to use on a future project. They were cut too short for use on a 28" rim. I gently cleaned the rear hub shell and exterior parts.

Updated condition showing Columbia as built wheels fitted with Fisk single tube tires. Check out the tied and soldered spokes. The two speed rear hub is in working order.

Thank you to all the CABE members that helped me complete this project.

Have a great Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Wow!
That looks great, Joe!
Nice job getting that one back together.
I do have to ask about how far the stem and seat post are extended though?
Is there enough engagement in their respective sleeves?
There should always be maximum/minimum insertion for each of those parts.
About three inches, as a general rule of thumb.
Just sayin, to be safe.😏

Great find!
That model is amazing!

Hi Marty,

Thank you for your positive vibes.

I do not plan on riding on the period tires.

The stem is extraordinarily long, over 8-1/2". For the photos it is inserted 2-1/4". I have not removed the seat post.

Best,

Joe
