Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
An amazing Triumph by Excelsior, Michigan City, IN. It is my belief this is a late 1918 bicycle as the paint doesn't have striping. There are a couple other Michigan City Excelsiors known with this paint scheme. There was a briefly enacted war requirement that went into place for only a short period (end of 1918) that required bicycle manufactures to stop adding three or more colors of paint, reduce plating (painted truss rods), etc. The "Triumph" badge seems concurrent to the war talk fervor of the period. Includes the original steel rims that look most like motorcycle hoops of the period. The bike has a beautiful craquelure surface and patina. Typical wear, scuffs, scratches, etc. as expected. I have not tried to air up the single tube tires but one must assume they are for display only; to properly ride this a set of Robert Dean black 28" groove treads are in order. Please PM to purchase.
