The World bikes are smaller sampling of Schwinn... The wording on the description of the double arch bar or model 107 is the same as the 1917 The World catalog... "Especially designed for short stout men or growing boys" aside from that renderings are the same as well sprockets, etc.

Yes, 'World" certainly points to Schwinn for sure. The 1st bikes in the 1924 BM&S hardware World Bicycle ads have Schwinn. looking forks with Schwinn looking sprockets (and one Excelsior sprkt) but...... 1.) The drive pin location is similar to the defunct-in 1923 Miami sweetheart ring. We may have to ignore a few of the renderers' possible ad mistakes that seem common back then. 2.) No skirt guard hook hole on the upper drop that both mens & womens frames had. (how long?) World ad frames seem to have pinched stays in the side views. 1919 Ads.....thinking Excelsior or Mead bikes with the nicklel-plated/tripple plate crown fork on the Royal Roadster, but Davis made a similar fork below. And yes Catfish, Davis/Dayton possibly on the Flying Merc. with that racing fork crown so Davis-like. And look at the nickled/ribbed fork #20 below from Davis!!!! Sure looks spot on to the Royal Roadster above. AND the bike has a 1/2" pitch sweetheart also mis-identified in the ad. Hmmm..

And this @markivpedalpusher example below of the World Archbar with the Exc. sprocket.

Recently sold Flying Merc with paint scheme the same as the above FM ad. With a Miami/Emblem 2" offset drive pin crankset!....

@dasbergerAnd this Flying Mercury Ad. Same trade journal but two years earlier. Different saddle, pedals and fork but same chain ring. It sure seems Clincher Wheels were around back then more than I had realized.

Sure Pete, one could say these are an infringement on the Merkel. Except, they go way beyond Miami with their builds; Mesinger auto-cushion saddles on the next year or two, stunning paint, and the top end accessories. The Flying Mercury badges are also stunning! When you see one in person it is hard not to fall in love.

It would be interesting to compare the number of Flying Mercurys and Merkels that still survive. (real unrestored Merkel originals- the Verzaal repop badge created many imposters). Based on the number of Mercurys that are known, they must have sold a fair amount or one could conclude they were better built than the Miami Flying Merkels.
