I'm slowly taking apart the bike in my post 'identifying-a-pre-ww2-schwinn-by-serial-number.236460'. All the metal in the seat was painted black but has now been stripped to bare metal. Did the metal on these seats come painted from the factory, or were they treated another way? If the original condition was nickel plated, or doubtfully, chrome, I see no traces. I did see traces of black paint on the surface of the seat pan that may be original, but I just don't know. I'm sure there were different treatments between the different models so I'm more curious about what was offered so I can chose a direction. This may not even be a Schwinn question if the seats were outsourced. I see no stamped branding or numbers of any kind. I'll post some seat pics if it helps.

Many thanks,
Mike

Unless it was a Troxel Autocycle style seat with the crimped edge then black for the pan.
