I believe 36 is the first year. I believe you have a 37.

This is the bike before. The previous owner got her like this. He was tryig to get her correct. So let me know what you thik before or after picture. What you think about the year now. Thanks in advance.

I believe this would be a 38 at the earliest. I've come to understand (this may not be gospel mind you) that 36 and 37 had the narrow space between bars that would not accommodate a tank. I've got a 37 pictured below. You can see how the bottom arch meets in the joint of the head tube and down tube vs fully on the down tube. The serial number is a pretty tried and true means of dating a CWC.

I believe I convo’d you with the year and other info on this model bike.

Currently as it sits, the chain guard is not correct. The before pic had the correct one. Also, the before fork is the correct one. I’m guessing the serial number to begin with the letter “D”

The stem is also wrong. The before picture had the correct stem.

Lightly rub the paint away with fine wet/dry sandpaper.

I'm betting on "D" 1938-1939
