Since we're on conversation about Aerocycles..... what's the TRUE story behind the maroon one?

The story I heard was that it was supposedly special ordered and owned by William Randolph Hearst? Of Hearst Castle fame as well as a huge amount of other things in the world.

I've never seen the bike in person, only a photo and it wasn't a great one either. So is it original paint, is it legit, or is it ALIENS? 👽 Asking for a Conspiracy theorist or two....

here is a picture of the bike you mentioned chris....can't remember where i took the picture but the bike was special.

As this 'bike for sale' has turned into its own forum I have a few more pictures I took of Aerocycles years ago-can't remember exact locations-one rather patina'd Aerocycle-another on display at a meet-and lastly the Aerocycle(subject of this thread) when it was packed in like sardines up at Steve Castelli's(seen in lower left of picture-partial).

Hello...

Of course a maroon (Schwinn called it "Dark Red and Ivory") Aerocycle was legitimate and possible. And there were other color combinations too. Please remember who told you so.

Randolph Hearst may have ordered one... but it was certainly not "special" or one-of-a-kind. You could have ordered the very same bicycle in the very same colors. And you didn't have to own a castle or own a string of newspapers to order one. But... you had to have the literature to know this was possible.

Otherwise? Put the Hearst story in the file with the other WILD FANTASY whack-a-mole stories about Schwinn and Aerocycles.
