1937 Cadillac DB Roadster

EastsideSchwinn

Finally riding a big boys bike
My 1937 Schwinn Doble Bar Roadster build.
Building this as a sort of resto mod.
I'll be using 1950s Trainlight fenders and seat, Drop centers with post war porkchop, and what ever else I find to complete what I have at the moment.
I'll be posting progress as I go along.. I'm not a purist by any means, so I know some of you will hate it, I hope the rest appreciate it. I build them my way 😉

Got my 50s fenders today, and did my "Pre War" mod to the rear. I don't have a roller, so I took my hammer and Dolly to them, I managed to straighten them out and got rid of most larger dents and curls. I'm sending them out to get sand blasted, so I'll fine tune them once I get them back.

Got the fenders back from Media blasting for both my '37 and a Ladies '39.

They came back looking pretty good.. but did notice some pitting, and though I hate this part, I decided to do some mud work.

I ran out of primer, so I haven't had a chance to spray them yet, but I hope to get that done this weekend.

Could you explain this mod a little more please? I’m trying to learn about prewar schwinn fenders. Everytime I ask a question, I get a very unhelpful answer or none at all! Thank you!

Certainly. It's actually really simple.. Post War Rear fenders are Longer due to the change in frame design. They're also deeper, which is why I like them.

Prewar tubes leading to the dropouts are relatively straight.

Postwar tubes are curved a bit more, making a larger window between tubes.

I tend to cut more than I need, but I like it that way.. you really only need to cut about 1 1/4 inch to clear. I don't worry about the tab at the bottom, I never use it.

You'll also need to pinch the dents on top a bit more.. the frame on a prewar tapers in at the top, post war frames are wider due to the change in design.

And here you have it.. a 1950s deeper, longer fender on a Prewar frame. Hope this helps!
Oh and for braces, I use any year front fender braces, they mount to the axle just like prewar rears.. 😉
