1939/1940 hawthorne ...may buy

I have a chance to buy a 39/40 hawthorne 26 inch boys tanker. With a springer that i dont know much about....it looks like a hiawatha fork.... any literature and general info woulld be helpful

This is not the bike....but its similar to the pics seen here...but the one I'm wanting to buy has a spring type fork....not stiff as seen in the black and white pic....the paint on the one I want looks og....with matching wheels and oxidized red paint on all painted parts....looks like it had a drop stand which is missing

Nice bike! That is a ShockMaster fork. I've heard it said by some here that it is the most comfortable riding springer ever made.

i have one..it is the best riding bike i own... the springer is awesome..yet the design is so simple.

That bike is pretty much a dead ringer for the “Better Quality” Comet model shown in the Fall/Winter 1939/1940 MW catalog. This bike is the Snyder built version of the bike which was supplied to MW by both Snyder and CWC. At that time both versions were equipped with CWC’s Shockmaster front fork when optioned up to that level. The only thing that looks out of place is the saddle which looks like a postwar unit.
