Because we only have one original paint CWC example, I don’t think you can make that a hard and fast rule. Here is an original paint 37 RMS. Catalog states it should be red outside stripe and white inside stripe. But actual is red and red. View attachment 1106326

Jerry's red one is a Snyder. There is another Red CWC. Partial pic of the rear fender on the CWC Wednesday thread. Just waiting for more pics to become available.

Interesting, that the original paint bike has a D45- - - serial number.
This original 38 type Y frame Supreme, has a D46- - - frame number.
I always thought that seemed like a 1939 number?
I guess it doesn’t mean much, except to show that they were still building the Y frame Supreme’s at the same time, that the new 1939 models were being introduced.
Fall season of 1938/Spring of 1939?

Interesting crossover for the CWC guys to ponder.
