Look Ma, No Hands!
Here, I have a Elgin Girls deluxe. I'm going to call in a 1940 as I've gotten responses from 1938 to 1941, so I'm going to call it a 40. This bike has been restored and built to be a 1 off. The first thing you may notice is the chrome fenders. At the time the options for fenders were stainless steel or aluminum. When the bike was restored the guy had the stainless steel fenders chromed, very cool. Many agree it's the only one they have seen like this. The next thing is the sprocket which is featureless, this was not a factory option either. Someone really took the time and money to make this bike special. It's far from original but the way I look at it is the same way I would look at a 30s ford and turned it into a gasser. Period correct cool factor.
I've begun cleaning it up. I'll attach pics below of the progress.

Gave it a bath with only a toothbrush and purple power, nothing else. It's really starting to come back to life. From just that initial scrub down. Looking forward to taking steel wool to the chrome and bringing that shine the best I can. That rear fender can only be brought back so far but I'm sure I can work a little magic in her.

Finally got it cleaned up. The paint was very delicate so I had to be extra careful every step of the way. Unfortionately I did loose some paint along the way. I was able to bring back the fenders to shine with a copious about of scrubbing with a brass brush and steel wool. There's not much I can do about the pitting but it still cleaned up. I wasn't able to find the pedals so if someone could guide me in the direction of what the original pedals were it would be greatly appreciated. Keep an eye out for it in classified ads!
