Finally riding a big boys bike
Looking for suggestions of how to remove the silver paint from the rims and nipples, doing minimal or no damage to any remaining original plating. The wheels are now disassembled. The nipples could be easily soaked in some product. For the rims, a strategy that doesn't require submersion would be best.

If the rims are chrome underneath, hose 'em down with some Klean Strip. Paint will bubble up and wash right off. Just have some thick rubber gloves. It can burn with wimpy gloves. If the rims are painted and you want to save original paint, don't use Klean Strip. Removing paint over original can be complicated and time consuming. There is much info on the Cabe about removing paint while saving good original paint.

Thanks. I've never owned painted rims. Can you tell me if, with painted rims, the original paint color can be seen on the inside of the rims? At this point, I'm leaning strongly towards mine being chromed, but want to be sure before taking the next step.

Yes, if the rims are painted you will see paint on the inside. Definitely use chemical stripping versus mechanical to save original finish as best you can.
Saladshooter, I appreciate the confirmation. In that case, mine are chromed. Yes, will definitely be using chemical. Anxious to see what Klean Strip, then Evaporust, leave!

You can use your fingernail to flake some paint off in a small, inconspicuous area as well if there isn't already a spot the original surface exposed. Another tip on Klean Strip; works better on warm surfaces.
