1940s Schwinn New World. Hand brazed Schwinn from the early years of the Schwinn 3-speeds. Nice maroon paint with generally good graphics. Mesinger World saddle; Sturmey Archer rear hub; Schwinn dural oiler front hub. Schwinn S6 stainless rims were a high-end touch in the 1940s. Schwinn grips; Sturmey quadrant shifter; AS&Co cottered crank set. AS stamped bottom bracket cups. Schwinn-built brake calipers. Bearings have fresh grease and hubs have fresh oil. Bottom bracket fresh grease. Even has original, working Schwinn brake pads and pad holders. New brake and shifter cables. Torrington pedals. Very lightweight bike from the 1940s and a Schwinn to boot. Great riding bike. 22-ish inch frame with 26 x 1 3/8 wheels. New Kenda tires and tubes. Classic, American-made bike that rides nicely.

$300 - local pick up in northern Virginia (Springfield/Kingstowne/Woodlawn area).

It had forward-facing pre-war dropouts. I don't recall the serial number. It arrived as a frame and a few other parts and I built it up from mostly period stuff I had. I did go with a post-war 40s-type Schwinn Continental stainless wheelset to give it a little more performance. It was a good performing bike.
