Archie Sturmer

Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
My J-00,xxx (early J-series?) circa 1946(?) CWC-built Hawthorne has the chain guard attached at the rear by through-bolting to the frame, with a (#8-32?) screw and a nut.

Not sure if it started as a feature unique to M. Wards, (or when)?

Finally riding a big boys bike
Rear chainguard mounting hole showed up very late in '46 and continued on from there. I'm getting one with an H serial number (Sep.-Nov. '46) and it has no hole. J serial number ones I've seen which are Dec '46 to Feb '47 do have the hole. That seems to go for all CWC cruisers (Roadmaster, Hawthorne, Hiawatha, Western Flyer, etc).
