Are you sure about the date of the brake plate? I don't actually know, but I have never seen that type of paint on 1950's or older sturmey archer hub brakes. It is usually a thin layer of smooth grey silvery paint, not the hard wobbly lacquer paint I have seen on later hubs. Would be interesting to research it though.

The hub is dated 46, which is for 1946. This style hub was produced until 1952.
