Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Here is your chance to have a one of a kind, 1947 Huffman Texas Special. I put a lot of work in this bike, and it is a sweet ride, and a great looker.
The only true Huffman part left on the bike, is the frame. It has an alloy wheel set, rear is a Sturmey Archer 3 speed coaster, front is a sealed hub. Sits on 26 x 2.125 Electra Strat O Balloon tires, that are like new, new rim strips, new tubes. The crank is new, new bearings and cups, up front is a 52 tooth Monark chain wheel, on the Sturmey is a 20 tooth cog, the bike is fast, and not bad on hills either. Schwinn bow pedals. The chain guard is off of a vintage J.C. Higgins, only on there because it looks cool, the front bracket is jury rigged to work, will need to be addressed if you want to keep it, but it holds as is. One thing to note, on the seat stays, where the fender mount is / was, there is an old farm repair at that area. The fender mount is under the plate that was welded there, but it is broken. I was going to repair it when I was rebuilding the bike, but then I decided to leave it, as it is part of the bikes history.
Sporting an H.L. Flake Texas Special head badge, it just conveys that this is a Texas Special bike. This bike was a labor of love, it was pretty much scrap when I got it. The frame was sanded smooth of the rust, 2 coats of etching primer and 2 coats of metallic dark copper paint to finish it up.
A standard modern Huffy cruiser saddle sits on a Chop Shopz lay back seat post, affording a very comfortable ride. Truss rods, Hunt Wilde grips, cruiser bars, the bike looks great, gets compliments and rides great.
The last photo is what it was when I bought it.
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. As with some of the other bikes I am selling, I don't want to sell this, but I really want a TOC bike that
I am trying to buy and it isn't cheap.
