Finally riding a big boys bike
another one i should probably keep
1947 Monark Silver King hex tube project.
wha you see is what you get. (i have the rims but they are junk see last photo)
i recently rescued this yard sculpture form a Massachusetts back yard where it slept forgotten since the early 70s.
so first the bad.
it sat so long the rims rotted through (i will cut out the hubs if you want them). the stem is stuck and the fork barely turns. original seat pan is there but cover has long eroded and disappeared. original bars stem and fork are pretty crusty but can be saved. cranky set is crusty as well but it turns easy and can be saved. i have the chain but its pretty stiff. (can be included) pedals were mega roached and junk, so no pedals. fenders are a little banged up but they look original. tail light is missing the lens. rack, guard and light were discarded or lost many years ago.
good news is
this project has great bones and whats left on it seems to be original. tail light housing is good shape. original kickstand is on the bike. the frame looks amazing despite spending most of its life outdoors. appears to be no damage to the frame. no frost bulges or splits/cracks. seems straight and solid. gently used. (original owner was a young girl who received it new in 1947). it was just neglected and left outdoors by her children when they lost interest.
this bike is located and will be shipped securely from rhode island which is a few miles from Rehoboth, Massachusetts, where it spent it whole life.
