Letting go of a favorite Paramount track bike. It is an outstanding example, hand built by Emil and Oscar Wastyn in 1951. These early Paramount Racers were the result of Frank Schwinn’s obsession with building World Class bikes for the Six Day races of the time. They utilized the highest strength Chrome-Molybdenum seamless tubing, keyhole lugs, silver-soldered to retain tubing strength, and the finest components Schwinn could produce, including the finely machined high-flange “phone dial” hubs for strength and weight reduction. Incredibly light, for an all steel bike, even by today’s standards.
This tall beauty includes the original phone dial hubs, the Paramount stamped three piece crank, Brooks racing saddle, Cinelli badged stem and bars, and the super lightweighted Italian rims. Serial 409 dates the bike to 1951. This bike was taken care of; frame and fork are straight with no damage, and wheels are remarkably true. These early Paramounts were truly works of art !
