Wore out three sets of tires already!
Today I offer this lovely 1952 J.C. Higgins Color Flow, a bicycle penned by the great industrial designer Viktor Schreckengost. (More about his work, including this bicycle, can be learned in the massive book, Viktor Schreckengost and 20th-Century Design.)
Each piece has been removed and made to shine to the best of my ability. The dark blue and light metallic blue present beautifully together - I really think that this is the best color combination. The skirt guards make this model look a lot better than the men's version, I think. New whitewall tires make this bicycle look amazing. The rear reflector has been replaced with a NOS one that matches the original. The horn works.
This is the ad from which I purchased the bicycle.
There are not many downsides. The wheels are period items that present well, though not original. Grips are replacements, as well as the reflectors. It is also missing a few minor pieces of hardware and one of the pedal blocks.
There's been a good bit of work to make this bicycle present as well as possible. Lots and lots of careful hand-polishing of the paint and chrome.
In conclusion, what we have here is a great value, the best-presenting example I am aware of for the money. For comparison, take a look at the last couple sales of comparable examples here.
$400, shipped, OBO. Payment is by PayPal, goods and services, for your protection.
This is the bicycle as I received it.
Shiny wheels!
New tires!
The reflectors present well as a rider bicycle.
Note: Reflectors for the rack are present. Nuts to install them will be supplied if needed.
Note the missing tab at the top of the reflector opening. Gluing the reflector in place should be trivial.
