1952 Spitfire DX

Found this bike locally on eBay.. Drove 2 hours to pick it up .. Rims,

front fender and crank not correct.. Missing head badge. Broken seat spring..

Cleaned up the frame.. found a much closer match front
Fender from bad bob.. original Torrington 6 comet pedal cleaned up.. welded seat spring

Replaced rims with correct original painted S2.. Reproduction Schwinn Typhoon cord tires from bicycle bones. Converted to skip tooth sweetheart front sprocket ..

11 tooth rear.. new headbadge from sm2501..

Were there originally three pins on the fork legs? I have a faded out red balloon fork with the three pins and always wondered what model it came off of.

This one did not have the 3 pins on the forks.. Catalog pictures did not seem to have them either.. Earlier standard DX’s had the pins..I think the Spitfire was the base model of the base model.. Also thinking the later model Spitfires did have the pins.. Interesting that the price points between some of the bikes was just a couple of dollars back in the day.. Value of a dollar was much higher ..

This bike had no pins on the fork legs or the chainguard ..
