Like a barn find I am offering my nicely preserved 1955 Schwinn Black Phantom for sale. I am the original owner having received this for Christmas in 1955. While not mint it is in good condition for a 65 year old bike. It has been in heated storage for the last 40 years and maybe more. I am not a collector and am selling due to age and the need to downsize. This Black Phantom is a 1955 model as verified by the serial number stamped on the frame. The chrome is good; the saddle is original; the horn works. I have a new set of decals for the bike but never put them on; decided to leave the originals. The tires are not the original Schwinn Typhoons but have been replaced with similar structure and tread. Mounted on nice, original S2 rims. New inner tubes installed.
More information and more pictures available on request. Price $1900.
Price assumes local pickup. Shipping can be arranged but at cost to the buyer.

Look Ma, No Hands!
Super cool especially considering the history/background! Would be awesome to see a picture from Christmas that year if you have one :)

Good luck with the sale and hope you find a good home for it!

I wish I had a picture from that Christmas too. There may be one somewhere in the family ( I have three siblings) but not sure I have one in the archives.
Will look someday.

How would you ship the bike ? would you package it,, or a bike shop, never shipped a bike before thanks Steve
I have already made arrangements with the primary bicycle sales and repair shop in Ames to remove any parts necessary to fit the shipment box ( such as handlebars) and box it for pickup by a shipper. My offer requests that this preparation be an expense of the buyer and the shop gave me an estimated cost of about $60.
