There are two sets of fenders in the pictures. One is original and I don't know where the others came from, but I would be happy to provide more pics if you're interested. Is there some way that you know to check?

Are the fender braces held on with true rivets or are there nuts on the underside? V/r Shawn

Check the fender braces. How are they mounted to the fender?
Rivets or nuts & screws?
I believe fender braces originally were not chromed but cad-plated.
This is my experience with the Phantoms I have seen.
Nevertheless...it’s a very nice Schwinn.

That can indicate reproduction fenders or maybe the fenders were re-chromed or the braces were replaced. I see no rust on the underside of the fenders and the fenders appear to be fresh, same with the braces. The new light is also an indication the fenders may be reproduction

Nice Phantom.

Yes most likely reproduction, but as has been posted already...
they might be originals that have been restored.

I believe the disparity between the tank and the fenders gave rise to questions regarding the 1957
Phantom and some of the parts.
I don't see anything wrong with reproduction items
if they are built well.

That is a very nice Phantom.

After seeing originals for a number of years, one gets to the point that one catches
something interesting or different.
Screws on the fender braces on what appears to be original fenders. Note the lack of paint around the area.
Perhaps the original rivets were badly damaged and were replaced with screws.

Also, I recall my very first Black Phantom project where the paint on the bicycle which was red was completely gone.
And the question: Should I go for “new" Schwinn red or the faded orange red which happens after many years with
bicycle paints from the past. ;)

Love your phantom, especially because it's red. GLWTS
