Can you see a name on the rims? I've heard the first year Continental used non-Schwinn rims, Radaelli maybe or something like that. Thanks for the pictures, there's nothing like an original bike, even if it's a little crusty!

A lot of guys think that the sunburst badge was never used on the Conti, and only the round badge (horizontal screw holes) was used. The assumption is that if you found a 1960 conti with a sunburst badge it was swapped out for the original round badge. Before now I have not really been able to see behind the badge to see the hole alignment (vertical from factory). You can also see the black adhesive that was used on the badge application and they all look like that underneath (typical on every one of these). You can see the impression of vertical SCHWINN where the adhesive connected with the lettering on the back of the badge. If you have not looked at a nice condition sunburst badge that was removed it has a plastic knob on the back that fits into where the screw holes are for placement/alignment.

There was a limited run of these with sunburst from the factory.

Here’s a couple of pics. The rims are Rigida and Rennfaron is right. It had a starburst badge. The distance between the vertical holes is 2 9/16”. Is that the right badge Rennfaron and is it for sale? Thanks

Hey @comet that was just a reference photo and I don't have any for sale. They do pop up on here and feebay. Another less known detail about the sunburst badges is there are two designs (see image below) : 1) first run from 1960 to somewhere in 1961 (on left); 2) from 1961 to 1963 (on right)(timing specific to lightweights, I don't know about other models). At first look they are basically the same but the first run has a raised silver border around the infill black lettering and the later version just has the infill black lettering. Yours would be the one on the left.
