Oilit

Cruisin' on my Bluebird
I picked this up as a curiosity, an AMF built Western Flyer, but instead of using the standard AMF frame the seat stays continue to the steering head and the cantilever supports are brazed or welded to the stays. I've seen two of these, both badged as Western Flyers. I'm guessing the bike is 1967 from the serial, but it could have been built late in the year for 1968. The 1967 AMF catalog doesn't show this style of frame and I don't have a catalog for 1968. Has anyone seen one of these badged as a Roadmaster? Snyder seems to have built a lot of different frame styles, but I get the impression that if you bought retailer badged bikes from AMF they usually just sold a regular production bike with different paint and decals.

That is a very cool frame.
I have a few twin-tube Murray's, but not a twin-tube AMF. I just have the standard single-tube version of this bike.

That's a pretty sweet find right there!
Thanks for the positive comments! I'm guessing this isn't a real common frame, especially if AMF only built it for Western Auto. But that's the beauty of the CABE, there's a depth of knowledge here that goes beyond what just one individual (like me) would expect to know.

I know I've seen at least a couple of these frames floating around Marketplace, but I don't recall if they were all Western Flyers. If I can find them again, I'll let you know. Got me curious about them now!

Okay, I found one of the listings for an identical frame, and while it's not as easy to see as I'd like, it's definitely a Western Flyer.

This is the best picture of it.

That sure looks like it. I only noticed one of these a year or so ago, so I may have seen more before it registered what they were. But that makes at least three, and all Western Flyers so far.

I have several Roadmaster Skyrider bikes that maybe have this style of frame. Will.have to do some digging to find out.
