Hey there, I am new to the forum and have some questions about a bike I recently inherited. I have a 1968 Runabout with 3 speed Stik shift. I am looking to sell it, hopefully locally (NH) so I don't have to ship it and risk damaging it. I don't know much about it so I was hoping to get some insight on how to describe it or if there are any parts that are unique (or maybe they aren't original?) or any details to include in the listing. Most parts seem to be original, but I am not an expert. The shift linkage is broken so it is hard to tell if the 3 speed hub is shifting correctly but it seems like it is when pulling on the cable and turning the cranks. It came with 2 extra shift linkages but didn't want to attempt another try after breaking the first one, oops! I believe there is supposed to be a spring but it did not come with one.

It does have some scratched / scraped paint and some rust here and there. The tires have cracking but hold air and the rims have a few dings / scrapes as well as pitting / scratching on the fenders.

Very cool bike with all the right looking parts. Repainted for sure, and it will hurt the value. Still maybe a 800 dollar bike

Seat is wrong, might even be a Troxel that someone put a Person's tag on. Shouldn't be too hard to find the original Messenger slide rail seat on a schwinn lightweight bike though.

pic stolen from the internet for example.

The bike is unique in that they only made the Run-a-bout in green and brown.. It helps to pedal while shifting.. Howwhere did the shift cable break? Did the crimping sleeve pull from the end of the cable?

No rivets on the side of the 68 seat .. 68 was the only year with Stik shift and only year with the wider S2 rear rim.. Tires should be white walls I’m thinking..
