Vintage French Bicycle Drivetrain Gear Display: 1970's - Stronglight TS - Simplex LJ - RARE!
This is a very nice purpose built gear display from the early 70's with rare parts. The usually seen US Schwinn Gear Display is a cut down frame, but this piece is purpose built with its small down-tube, capped seat stays, complete head-tube with installed stem, and the vertical mounting post which is cleanly attached to the bottom bracket. There is no serial number. The gears shift and work perfectly as shown, the pedal chucks are solid and amazing. The base is a funky blue with black trim and a couple of gaps in front. Please see photos for condition, questions welcome. The individual parts are called out on the attached base tag but the rear derailleur has been upgraded with a NOS Simplex Prestige LJ (Lucien Juy) rear derailleur, LJ is the dude who designed the original parallelogram derailleur in '28 under the marquee Simplex. Also featured is the popular randonnee touring crank, the Stronglight TS three-arm, with it's original drillium chainrings which are awesome!
Condition: Excellent previously displayed shape. There is the expected amount of patina from age and being touched and spun. This piece could really shine if you disassemble and deep clean the components. The drivetrain is fully functional. Crank looks great with only light finish scratches. Chainrings have essentially no wear, as spinning with no load doesn't do much wearing. Rear derailleur looks amazing, and would look pretty close to NOS with a thorough cleaning. Pulleys spin perfect, springs feel nice.
