1979 Schwinn Mag Scrambler

I'm putting my money on a repair. Your head tube looks longer then it should be. Can you measure it.

I have seen more scramblers with the heavy welds than the smooth, I am not sure why there are differences, but I would not call his incorrect or a repair.

I think I'm just seeing them at a odd angle and they look raised and are actually not.

The one on the right was for sale on the cable years ago, same welds. I will measure the head tube and let you know @coasterbrakejunkie1969

Im no expert on Scramblers but what is up with the welds on the head tube? Do all Scramblers have that?

Not all Scramblers had the extra welds, just the frames without the gussets!

This BMX frame does not have the Schwinn one piece head tube which was used at Schwinn Plant no. 4. This implies that the frame was made at Schwinn Plant no. 1 or no. 2, (which ever of these plants was manufacturing frames).

I am guessing that the first digit in the serial number is "8" and not "5" (which usually indicates plant no. 4).

Does anyone know why the bottom half the serial number was hacked off? Or if it was a common thing?

I'd say the serial number machine wasn't set right and punched the numbers too low. I don't think this was a post production problem nor do I think anyone deliberately cut the bottom off the head tube.
