Look Ma, No Hands!
It would look so much better without the pipe insulation covering the bars.
Those pads were for carrying your surfboard to the beach without scratching or dinging the rails (edges). They also kept your handlebars passenger from scorching her seat after the bike sat in the sun for a few hours. And yes, they never did look that great, and too many bikes ended up with them. It's a very cheap accessory.

Wore out three sets of tires already!

It's not pipe insulation, it is hypalon padding that was all the rage back in the late 70's & 80's for the Schwinn Cruisers! It was one of the most popular ad-ons sold at our shop so the guys could take the bikini clad chics for a ride on the bars while riding up and down the bike path at the beaches in Southern California!

We “the people” who had hypalon padding on our bikes had all the fun and those who didn’t felt left out .
