1981 Mongoose Team Pickup

Just picked up this 81 Team model locally.
Has the original seat, and Araya rims. Tuff neck stem and the chrome is in great shape. I look forward to restoring this one. I will need to source some 81 bars.

Very nice find and great bones there! I like the stem, they refer to that stamping variant as the "drunk tiger" lol.

I thought so at first, but I believe they are just from a Huffy.

We're practically neighbors, I'm just north of you in Niles. Niles had a bike shop that sold Mongoose back in the day. Here's my score from last year, an '81 supergoose, from Three Oaks.

Interesting I wonder if my bike came from the shop in Niles.

A good chance it came from that shop. I remember around 1981 going into the bike shop and drooling over the mongeese. I was saving my money but bought a Murray X20r from Service Merchandise by the mall in Mishawaka. That lasted about two weeks until I saw ET then I had to have a Kuwahara. I bought the Kuwahara frame and fork and swapped all the Murray parts. 41 years later I finally get my mongoose.

The rear hub at the cassette is damaged. Should I look for a free wheel or look for another cassette hub?
