Finally riding a big boys bike
This is a bike I bought locally from an older gentleman who bought it new for his wife. He didn’t have a good answer for why he bought a men’s bike for his wife, I guessed maybe it was availability, but, for whatever reason, his wife simply didn’t ride it. It hung in his basement for decades, until I bought it.
I serviced the bike, and replaced the chain and the rear sprocket with a 21 tooth version. If you want the original 18 tooth sprocket, it’s yours. The rims used by 1981 were French, and they are perfect 28” examples, that have the factory red paint under the rim strips, with absolutely none of the usual rust. The tires and tubes were soft and pliable and I left them on. The Brooks B66 is like new. Lamp bracket and pump are there, along with the dealer installed reflectors.
The bike is gorgeous, an excellent example of the Raleigh Roadster built shortly before the end of production. I’d really prefer not to ship the bike, but, I have several bike shops locally that I believe are up to the task. Figure at least two boxes for this one.
