Finally riding a big boys bike
FOR SALE late '40s (early '50s?) 24" Murray 'Jet Flyer' . This sweet little thing is pretty much barn found. It is all original. I HAVE gone through this one, and here's what I found/did: This was exposed to the elements but there are no cracks, breaks, or rust holes in the frame. I disassembled the entire bike, wiped it down, soaked it in boiled linseed oil, then removed the excess. The horn components are all intact, but would need replacement/restoration to get it working again. All of the mounting screws were missing accept for the chainguard screws, so none of the others are original. Fenders have rust holes (pictured) but are sturdy and intact. Rack is awesome and very sturdy (as are braces) but needs mounting bolt (brace to frame) on non-drive side (drive side bolt is intact). The tires are original Flying 'O'. The rear holds air, but I would say the set is in 'display only' condition. Chrome on rims is shot, rear wheel needs a spoke replacement, but the set is rideable. Truss rods and crown are solid and intact. Tank has rust hole around horn switch, but the rest is solid and intact. Grips are original, but shot, so I will include the sweet red grips pictured which will highlight the red in the tank and guard graphics, but they also match the waterfall channeling of the rack. The original chain, crank assembly, and pedals are all included. One BB bearing ring is in perfect shape, the other was shot, so I am including a match (exact same bearing ring, just not original to the bike). The cones are shot and will need replacing as well as the pedals (one is bent). The sprocket and crank arm look straight and in working order. I went through the headtube, cleaned and regreased everything, it is ready to rock. I did not touch either hub, so you'll need to go through them. As for the light, it should be a Murray Rocket Ray, and I am almost positive I owned it several months ago (aquired this bike separately, but from the same individual). I unfortunately no longer own the light, or else I would have returned it to the bike. This is being sold AS IS and I have disclosed all that I know. This is a pretty rare 24" bike, and a sweet little ballooner. $90 local pickup. Willing to ship ($90 + actual shipping to lower 48) coming from Atlanta, GA
