Sold'47 Monark Silverking Hex Tube - Killer Original in storage for the last 20+ years.
I brought this bike home in October, maybe rode it around the block once and then put it on display on the 3rd floor of my loft. Today I took it down the two flights of stairs to the workshop and tore off that protective cover and here is what I found, and not what I was expecting. The crack is all the way through and reinforced with the metal plate and three screws (brass?) which are fused, as well as a mystery hole. With the combination of the reinforcing metal sleeve and the brake arm strap, the fix seems bomber, I stood on the chain stay today and it is solid. I also took the bike for a long ride today and it rides very well, the front fork is very nice and rides like butter, but the rear brake is shot and will need service. I also found another fix in the rear rack stay's, one has broken off and been repaired with new dropouts and the similar screws (brass?) from the chain stay. Both repairs are well done, and do not effect the ride or display-ability of this bike. Here are the photos, and a few more, note the one side of the saddle damage...
