63 Schwinn Jaguar corrections

On Training Wheels
Hello, new member here. I’ve had this bike for about 12 year now. It doesn’t get a ton of use, but I’d like to get it into the best original condition I can.

i believe the rear hub is incorrect- that it should have red grooves instead of yellow.

I’m not sure if the wheels are correct. Should they be S7 rims?

I don’t know enough about these to know if anything else is incorrect, so I’m hoping folks here can help point out any issues. Any input is appreciated.

Welcome to the Cabe. Wow, your Jag is in outstanding condition!

Yes the rims should be the S-7's but the Yellow band Automatic wasn't introduced until 1965. Your bow pedals are the earlier issue that were replaced by the large cap fixed rubber blocks. No big deal in my book, but they're not original issue on a 63 model. The light also an earlier issue, 1961, and is much harder to find than the 1962 and up Pumpkin light. Usually the first thing kids did to their new bikes was take off the lights and then they were lost or tossed. Beautiful Jaguar regardless of the few replaced parts that were Schwinn issue, but not period correct.

Thank you, GTs58.

I’ll be on the lookout for a hub first. I can make out the S-7 on the rims, so it’s okay there.

Are the pumpkin light and pedals pictured the kind I should be looking for?

The light you show is correct but the pedals are not. Here's an eBay link for the correct pedals. These were used from 1960 thru the 65 model year. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5335809022&icep_item=254722811215

Look at your local Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. I bought a 63 Schwinn Traveler for $20. It had the bow pedals on it, a good seat, nice S6 rims and tires. Kept the seat and pedals, sold the rims and tires, sold the generator and lights, sold the fenders, put a set of alloy rims with tires, and seat from a Chinese Schwinn on it and I ride it - lightweight frames with middleweight tires - easy. So my pedals and seat were free, the bike is now free, and I've got $$ in my pocket. I've learned to be patient. What you're looking for will eventually fall at your feet.

Great idea. I’ll look around more. Would be nice to have another.
