I have an old Rambler bicycle with a front hub axle that measures 9/32". What size nut would that use?
Do you think bicycle manufacturers would use metric nuts in the mid 1890s? I can't find a 9/32" nut anywhere. It would be an M7 in metric, but the y only seem to have course thread nuts in M7.

If I hadn't just sold my 1900, I might have been able to find a nut for you. :(
be glad it's not a Keating, all their threads are weird.

Most metric sizes are available in both a fine thread and a coarse thread. You are probably not going to find the fine threads at Lowes though. Roger

9/32 taps are readily available. They can be had in a variety of pitches. Make your own nut out of some hex stock. How many threads per inch is the axle?

A metric M7 thread might have 1mm pitch, which is about 25.4 threads per inch.
Common bicycle axles have a thread pitch between about 24 and 26 tpi.
There may be a "thread" on measuring threads per inch.

The BSF was invented in 1908; my earlier post may reflect 9/32" (7.1mm) Whitworth threads.
I forget when Gormully & Jeffery Ramblers were absorbed by Westfield.

Or find an engineer with a set of thread guages, difficult perhaps in todays world of CNC machinery, but worth a try.
This is a set for 'Whitworth' standard thread pitch.....

It goes up to 60 tpi.
