Enjoying my 37 Colson Commander
I know there is a lot of speculation with some Commanders out there that are restored that are 37-39; but the fact is 37-39 Is a completely different geometry and size that is larger than a 36. There was not a 18" model offered like the 36, only 20 1/2. Now, there were a string of 37-39 that were made in the past years that are a copy of the 36 geometry and have no real flow in frame or tank with its design like a real 37-39 Commander. Photos taken in 2013 Iron Ranch.
The mocked up photo does not have the correct fender braces and is a girls fender set from a 37 model, the larges and deepest gothic peak fender set Colson used which was in a 1937 then became more petite.
37-39 Commander is a 1/2 taller in seat mast than the 36 tall frame and 37 Imperial and with the same wheel base, a long frame.
Here is a comparison side by side with my old 1937 and Ron S 1936.
Check the seat post mast on how it ends on top and doesn't go much past the top bar, second check out how different the BB area is built, third inside the tank it should look like a popcorn 1960s house ceiling, some kind of weird spray on weld much like the 36 Colson Streamline Trike. and last but not least, the rear slat rack braces are short and should have flow like on my old example now owed by Scott M.
