I live for the CABE
Rare 1894 1st edition of Across Asia On a Bicycle, the journey of two American students from Constantinople to Peking, by Thomas Allen and William Sachtleben. The Century Co. New York. 234pgs. Hardback with gold embossed blue cover and top edge gilt. Numerous illustrations and photos throughout the book. No loose or missing pages. Interior is clean and the spine is tight. Normal edge and cover wear for a 130 year old book. Asking $250. NOW $150.
shipped. PM me if interested. Thanks !

*Side note - Sachtleben was the cyclist who was sent to find Frank Lenz, the intrepid cyclist who was on a 20,000 mile cycling trip over three continents and recording it for Outing Magazine. Sachtleben never found him (Spoiler - he was murdered) and worked tirelessly to bring his killers to justice. David Herlihy wrote a great book about the story back in 2010.

***I'll also include a copy of the Herlihy book about Frank Lenz titled The Lost Cyclist. It is in excellent condition. See last pic.

It's an interesting book! They were relieved when replacement cushion tires finally caught up with them- their set had worn down to the rims. They met the then Shah of Iran, who complained the mullahs were keeping the Persian people from advancing... There is a companion book about their ride across Europe. I think the bikes are in a museum in southern California.
