Bumping this thread because it’s a good read about a part of Bicycle history ‼️

We have friends that live right outside Paris. It is an interesting town, has a cool downtown square, an Eiffel tower at the community college complete with cowboy hat! The coolest thing I saw was at the cemetery, a very large tombstone sculpture of Jesus wearing cowboy boots!
Yes! My son and I traveled there in March to see the Alexander shop and all those sites you mentioned. Very nice town!

One other highlight was eating at Burgerland! Not to be missed if you visit Paris!!
We visit every year, it is a 9hr drive from Ne to Tx.

Today millions of Americans kick off their Christmas shopping. Imagine being a 12 year old boy in Paris, Texas and seeing this bicycle in your dad’s newspaper in 1939‼️
J.R. Alexander had just invented the Alexander Rocket Bicycle and used it in this advertisement. Apparently just to draw people in to his bicycle shop where he sold new and used bicycles manufactured by name brand companies.
Note the original style fork, not the teardrop style seen on all others. I’d say this bike is the one in Bicycle museum of America in Ohio.
This is also the only period photograph of a rocket bicycle known so far. Just the coolest thing to me.

2024 was a great year for us! Definitely the most unique bicycle I’ve ever owned because it’s 1 of a kind original Alexander Rocket bike. Totally different from the other Rocket Bicycles.
It’s an honor having it in the Sheffer and Son Alexander Rocket Bicycle collection! 💜💜
