Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Just wanted to go through another detail job of the second 77 Spitfire that I picked up.

Previous owner had different handlebars, grips, seat, and tires on this one. I have already replaced those parts in this picture, just wish the handlebars weren't Wald and the tires were correct date...

Feb 77 frame with 95th day of 77 build date.

Just says SCHWINN, no date markings.

I forgot to post some photos from the other day...

3+7 fork date.

PXL_20250102_190456436.jpg
47? Well, it's definitely 47, but not sure what that number is for.
PXL_20250102_190514489.jpg
76, again not sure what that number is for...

Then 61B and 15 under the crown.

For some odd reason, the left BB cup wasn't quite seated.

No paperclip, that's for 5spds! Lol

Crank races only marked with "SCHWINN", lock nut is 1-3/16"(30mm). 4-76 crank with C stamp on left arm designating heat treatment. Bearings are stamped "SCHWINN 6178A H". Sprocket has slight, smooth offset.

Bendix 76 hub in the rear has the spacer washers that are called out in the 76 Service Bulletin.

First up for cleaning today with a basic wipe down with Simple Green to remove oil and grease residue, then onto the Meguiar's cleaning wax to buff down scrapes and paint transfers(from rubbing against other bikes I suppose).

Careful with the lettering!

Q-tips with cleaner wax to buff the red just up to the edge of the white.

These are pretty solid, so I came back over the entire set of letters with just a light coat of the cleaner wax and a few passes to even it all out. Next is onto the Meguiar's Carnauba Wax!

This red came out quite bright! ...with the usual nicks and scratches, but very strong lettering. The original owner must have used Scotch tape to secure the New Albany shop sticker on, so I'm leaving it as is.

This being an early Schwinn Spitfire with most all its original parts, just for reference, what brand/make of chain does it have?
