Look Ma, No Hands!
Evening all,
I know a few of you know this already but for everyone else I thought I'd share my latest acquisition.
This G519 came from a private museum in Spain and has apparently been there since the end of the war (i know I'm wondering how this got there as well!). After going between the sellers house and Spanish customs 3 times it finally made it through on the third go and arrived with me in England last Tuesday. Unfortunately it had sustained some damage during shipping (see below photo). It has now been straightened out by the experts at Mercian Cycles in Derby and did an amazing job in doing so. The frame (MG156012) has matching hubs (front and rear) and a lot of origional components (including front mudguard which I have just didn't fit for the photoshoot).
The hunt for other components has already began with a stand and reflector still needed so if anyone would like to help out I'd be most grateful.
I'd like to thank @Mercian and @johan willaert for making this happen with their wealth of knowledge and all the time they have spent with my little queries and questions. Also a big thanks to @Huffy45 for the continued support and advice as well as being an all round top fella 👍
I'll keep everyone updated with how the restoration goes but first... The Victory Show in Cosby this weekend. If you are going ill see you there 👍
Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Pete

Hello @Pedro96 ;
Wow magnificent 😺
For 3 passes, it was worth it.
For me, and this is just my opinion, this G519 was found in France; what makes me say that is the luggage rack with and especially the little red light of the RADIOS brand ( French electric bicycle accessory manufacturer in Bellegarde-Ain), check if it has the marking on the collar.
For white paint, just dampen a cloth with a little Acetone, rubbing lightly but without scratching, that should do it.
Regards;
Serge

Been eagerly waiting to see this wonderful bike and it does not disappoint, very complete!

After finding out it's shipping woes i'm glad it's back to straight again and ready to roll to the show.

Congrats on the score!

Hi Serge,
Thanks for the comments above. I didn't know if the white would have been from it's time in England as the bell looks to be a ww2 GPO bell (I could be wrong) and has in the underside "made in britain". The pictures are more complimentary of its current state so I think a full rub down and repaint will be needed over the winter.
With regards to the light I also have a front light and dynamo... is there a big market for these do you know?
Thanks again.

Thanks buddy, appreciate the help so far. Given the state of the box when it arrives im suprised it wasn't more damaged!
So happy it's finally here though

Hello @Pedro96 ;
The white painting was done after the installation of the luggage rack, the paint goes up on the rear leg.
The lamp is a French Cibié and the German dynamo from the 1930-1950 (would be perfect for a truppenfahrrad, she might be interested @leo healy ).
In France, they are very easy to find from 5$ to 25$.
Ithink it would be a shame to repaint it but that's my opinion.

Serge

Since others have offered their opinion on refinishing I must agree, my friend.

This bike has nearly all of it's original paint and displays wonderfully in it's condition. Not many like it. If it were mine I would remove the post war parts, get the correct G519 small parts and keep as much original OD as possible. Seat leather I'd understand replacing but the Persons logo is really cool!

If something like the handlebars lacking paint is bugging you, you could always swap for a NOS set (cheap and plentiful) and keep these to the side.

Same with the seat pan. Swap between a rider seat with good leather for events, and original leather for display purpose. Just ideas to keep this thing OG!

This discussion happens often in the Jeep community with original paint.

It is your bike in the end but I think you'll find a unanimous response on this most likely. Many freshly painted bikes, yours is a one looker original.

Aaron
