Riding an Alexander Rocket Bike
From Tom Hern -

Brother Bill passed away today. He was an avid bicycle collector for almost 40 years. Bill was 91 years old and will be greatly missed by all.

I think I met one of them, several years ago when I started my Radiobike restoration. He had a wonderful collection and was so helpful in my research. He even had a Tom Thumb radio, and I was so thrilled to be that close to one. The hobby lost a great one.

First met The Brothers Hern back in '1983 maybe '84.
These guys were seasoned collectors of balloon-era
bicycles. Each had a wonderful selection of these
machines.

But that was not what i most admired about them.

They liked to trade. And they were not difficult to
work with. Most of all, i noticed the presence of a
functioning moral compass, in each brother.

I wanted to be just like them when i grew up.

Thru the years, many of the Dayton-area collectors
would go to swap meets together - whether it was in
Ohio, Indiana, Michigan or Pennsylvania.

Great Times !!

Bill, and his brothers, Jim and Tom continue to have
a positive influence on those within the antique and
classic bicycle brotherhood.

You Are Missed, Bill ...
