On Training Wheels
So i came across this hawthorne my cousin thought was trash and completely worthless. I noticed the montgomery ward label on the neck of the bike and knew that this was a rare bicycle. So i held onto it and ive seafched threads for days now trying to figure out what yeat this could possibly be and how much it is worth. I woild lovw to sell the thing and make as many hundreds as possible. Although I do want to put some new tubes in it and at least ride it once or twice. It does seem like a very well made bike and would probably be a very nice ride. The serial Number is D379125 another number locted near this one 31609F. The little arm attached to the back wheelthat normally says hawthorne is labeled Excel Mark IV. I'll attach as many pics as possible to help anyone who can help me id this bike. Its in very good condition which leads me to believe its not a 1930's model. Thank you i hope we can solve my mystery. View attachment 1323310View attachment 1323310

Looks like a Snyder built bicycle, from the 1970’s, (see BMA sticker), but that was about the time that their factories closed.
Looks like a nice girls rider, however the knobby front tire (rear?) might make for one bumpy ride.

BMA/6 started in '71. Bike was made by the Snyder co, who also built Rollfasts, from the '30s until they closed in '75. Serial #'s started with 'A' in '59, but they skipped letters, and started over with A again around '69. So, it can only be from '71-'75.

A "rare" bike, no. Your cousin's assessment is close. 20 bucks, but thanks for saving it. Lots of truly rare and collectable bikes are still being found stashed in attics and barns and sadly, are trashed.

Welcome to the CABE. It's a great source of information if you decide that you'd like to expand your interest in this hobby. The value here, is that you made an attempt to save an old bike. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much $$$ value as others have stated. Maybe next time.
